Bebop Spoken There

Avishai Cohen (trumpet): "This is my main thing right now: Live in the here and now, take things one day at a time. I'm stopping everything I can, and stripping everything to the bone. I'm spending a lot of time listening to music, playing, going for walks, enjoying my kids." - (DownBeat June 2020).

Dave Rempis:Ten years from now, I can see musicians streaming concerts in real time and charging a minimal amount for people to watch.” - (DownBeat September 2013)

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Rupert Burley (Dynamic Agency): "BSH just goes from strength to strength".

Today

As we all know there are no live gigs taking place in the immediate future. However, any links to jazz streaming that are deemed suitable - i.e. with a professional approach - will be considered for posting.

Jazz Co-op @ The Globe: The Mark Williams Trio: August 6

Mark Williams (guitar); John Pope (bass); Russ Morgan (drums)
(Review by Ann Alex/photo from archives)
Another brief report, and my excuse, this time, is that I had to leave early as I’d been working hard at the Globe Summer Workshop that day. Perhaps I’ll get sacked from BSH for lackadaisickalness, but I can’t be, because there’s no such word.

The band started fast and loud and well on the money, as Russell would say, with what I’d call a wall of sound from the drums, fast full drumming which makes sense and is magically well skilled. Mark was soon up at the dusty end of the guitar with high notes, solos from guitar and bass, playing an original, but I didn’t catch the name.  Then came Keep Me In Mind, a contrasting smooth strong tune, brushed drums, riffs of The Girl From Ipanema and then some hand-drumming from Russ.   Chic Corea’s Windows followed, a tricky tune with a drum solo, then a mellow meditative slow tune, Old Folks. And alas I wanted more but I would have been too tired to appreciate the second set, so off I  reluctantlywent.  Well done lads!
