This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Mark Williams/Paul Susans @ Jazz Café - Dec. 20

After the jazz, the razzmatazz, of a Strictly Smokin' Big Band Christmas Special in the adjoining Newcastle Arts Centre the withdrawal had to be done gently to avoid a coronary.
Mark and Paul provided the perfect antidote.  
After a couple of hours of the swingingest big band this side of Count Basie a chill-out was needed.
Some of us found it in the Jazz Café where guitar and bass provided the panacea.
What a night! Fantastic big band and fantastic duo. This is what jazz - what music - is all about.
The infinite variety - age cannot wither nor custom stale - It sure didn't wither or stale tonight!.
Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You - played at Christmas - is as appropriate as any of the the other Xmas songs (Fur coat for Christmas etc...)
A delightful evening that surely would have been standing room only if the audience at the Arts Centre had been reminded of what was going on in the Jazz Café next door!
