Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Pink Lane Jazz Co-op Update on Globe Project

I expect you will have heard about our project to buy The Globe and create a co-operative live music venue and jazz education hub.
We are holding an event for potential investors to find out more about this exciting venture on Monday 3 March at the Lit & Phil, 23 Westgate Road NE1 1SE starting at 6pm – there will be a buffet and bubbly as well as talk and jazz.  Whether you have invested or not please come along and bring some friends.  (It would be helpful if you let me know if you’re coming so we can get some idea of how many to cater for.)

To those of you who have already bought shares – thank you for supporting us.
To those of you who have not yet invested – please do so now.  There is no advantage in waiting because if you buy shares online the money does not get debited from your bank account until after the share issue is closed.  www.microgenius.org.uk/project/pink-lane-jazz-co-op-at-the-globe-17
You may also pay in instalments if you would prefer – please email me for details.
If you have invested already maybe you could persuade someone you know to invest as well.  There’s lots of good reasons to buy shares but two that have persuaded me are
1  This will be very significant for the future of jazz in Tyneside – providing a venue where musicians can learn, share and develop their skills.
2  We are asking for investments not donations.  It’s a good business opportunity that should earn a reasonable rate of interest.
I look forward to seeing you on 3 March.

Dave Parker
