This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. It's time to vote in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2012.
This is your opportunity to let those on both sides of The House know that the Jazz Population is a significant mass and when you vote for whoever you vote for you are not just voting for a band or an individual but for the future of jazz itself.
The categories are:
Jazz Musician of the Year (UK based musician who impressed in 2011)
Live Jazz (including clubs, venues, festivals and promoters)
Jazz Journalist of the Year (UK based journalist who impressed in 2011)
Jazz CD of the Year (released in 2011 by UK band or musicians)
Jazz Broadcaster of the Year (Radio, TV or online).
Jazz Publication of the Year (including magazines, blogs, listings and books)
Jazz Education Award (to an educator or project for raising the standard of jazz education in the UK)
Services to Jazz Award (to a living person for their outstanding contribution to jazz in the UK).
