This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Maine Street Jazzmen @ Rosie Malone's

Another splendid afternoon washed down with Cumberland Bitter. The Maine Street men and woman have the dixieland repertoire honed down to a fine art - and it is art. If the Condon Gang had still been around they may have sounded like this and Ray Harley is a player very much in the Billy Butterfield mould.
It's straight down the middle 4/4 swing no changing of time signatures for these boys - not that there is anything wrong with that!
Olive sang well on Keepin' Out of Mischief Now despite suffering from a larynx related problem - still sounded good.
It was pleasant, it was fun, it was what jazz is all about - six guys swinging on recognisable tunes.
Another great Thursday fix.
