This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jazz Double Bill coming up @ The Greyhound, West Rainton.

Jazz Double Bill - CLQ + Off The Leash. The Greyhound, West Rainton, DH4 6PA. Wednesday 16 September 2009, 8pm prompt. Admission free.
For several years, local resident and sax tutor John Steele has organised informal jazz sessions at the Greyhound pub in West Rainton. Since the pub reopened under new management earlier this year, John has arranged some slightly more formal gigs - still free admission - usually held on the third Wednesday of the month. This session was planned as a repeat of a popular evening held on 17 June, but the line up of both bands had changed slightly since then, so like all the best jazz, no one knows quite what to expect.
CLQ - a fresh approach to jazz standards with Jeff Smith (tenor sax), Karen Rann (soprano sax), Caroline Lee (piano), Dave Parker (double bass), Michael Howard (drums).
Off The Leash - playing a mix of standards and fusion with John Steele (saxes), Paul Beck (piano), Mike Clarke (double & electric bass), Stan Praszczalek (drums).
