This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. This weekend big band fans are heading to Chester-le-Street!

It's that time of year again when all big band roads lead to Chester-le-Street. Literally hundreds of musicians will be converging on Park View Community Centre on Church Chare to celebrate all things big band at the amazing Great North Big Band Jazz Festival. The action begins this evening (Friday 28 February) with the annual opening concert featuring Musicians Unlimited. 


Saturday's action (1 March) begins early - 11:00am to be precise. The first of two competition days, this is the day when senior bands lock horns, hoping to catch the ear of the judges. Community bands, university bands, it's nonstop action throughout the day. Sunday (2 March) features the musicians of tomorrow. It's a day of school and youth bands showing what they can do. Be sure to arrive early (much like Saturday!). Tutored year round by dedicated music teachers, this is your chance to hear what they've been up to. It's always a marvellous occasion, do support the 22nd edition of the Great North Big Band Jazz Festival. Tickets (day and weekend) are available at the door (refreshments available). See you there!
