This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Luis is selling out (Feb. 28)!

Luis Verde's debut at the Gala Theatre, Durham is going to attract a full house. 97 seats have been snapped up, leaving just three - that's THREE - seats up for grabs. Over the last couple of years or so, alto saxophonist Luis has made a big impression on the Tyneside jazz scene. Relocating to the region from Spain, Luis wandered into Newcastle Arts Centre one night looking to sit in at the Black Swan jam session. The rest, as they say, is history.


The Luis Verde Quartet - Joe Steels, guitar, John Pope, double bass, John Hirst, drums - will be at the Gala on Friday 28 February. It's a one o'clock start, tickets a mere £8.00..
