Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Press release: Stockport Jazz - New Venue

Following the closure of the Railway, the Moor Club on Heaton Moor Road will host jazz nights on Sundays, with Jazz at the Railway rebranded as Stockport Jazz.

It’s hoped that once established this will run on weekly basis, 8-10pm (doors open at 7.30pm). The following dates have been confirmed so far:

August 18th - Paul Hartley/Gair Carson Quartet

September 1st - Jim Collins Quartet

September 8th - Mike Hall Quartet

There will be a door charge of £5 with all proceeds going to support live jazz.

Please spread the word and encourage people to attend so more gigs can be arranged.

The Moor Club can be found at 35 Heaton Moor Rd, Heaton Moor, Stockport SK4 4PB — please use the central entrance door  https://themoorclub.com/

There will also be live jazz at the Moor Club on the afternoon of Monday 26th August between 2-6pm with the Paul Hartley Quartet and the Max Beesley Trio, free admission.

On Wednesdays Loose Change and the Max Beesley Trio will appear on alternate weeks.

Looking forward to seeing you soon at the Moor Club and thank you for continuing to support live jazz! Alan Stander
