The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Sing A New (ish) Jazz Song

I've been having great fun lately on Wednesdays at the Globe Songwriting Course, which is run by Tim Dalling, whom you may remember from the comedy/folk band the Old Rope String Band a few years back. We had to write a song about 'writing a song' so I came up with this offering which may interest readers. Don't think I'll be performing this one at any jams, any time soon, mind. Just a bit of fun!

A Sort Of Song

Night and Day, Cole Porter's the one

Steal his lyrics to write a good song

It's too hard to make words up

Just use his because they're good

He won't object at all

Because he's dead!

 

Anything goes, so begin the beguine

In the still of the night, if you want to be seen

It's just one of those things

It gets under your skin

So from this moment on

Sing along, just sing along
