This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: The return of the Black Swan jam session (Tuesday 7 Feb.)

Tonight sees the return of the Black Swan jam session. An institution, this is the one event you cannot afford to miss. It's anyone's guess who'll turn up, they come from near and far - Bensham, Benwell, Edinburgh, London, Chicago, Los Angeles. No kidding! The house trio sets the standard - this evening it's Alan Law (piano); Paul Grainger (double bass) and Rob Walker (drums) - before the first of who knows how many sitters-in will be invited to join the party. The evening gets underway at half past seven through 'til 10:30pm. Admission is free, however, as we're operating in the jazz economy, do your bit by frequenting the bar! Newcastle Arts Centre is on Westgate Road, two mins' walk from Central Station Metro. Russell
