This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Album review: Martin Wind Quartet - My Astorian Queen

Martin Wind (double bass); Scott Robinson (tenor sax, bass saxophone, clarinet, trumpet); Bill Mays (piano); Matt Wilson (drums, percussion)

Martin Wind arrived in New York twenty five years ago to study at New York University. The German bassist has been in the Big Apple ever since. Wind's cv includes performing or recording with a dizzying array of musicians ranging from the Brecker brothers, Pat Metheny, Ken Peplowski and Sting to the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. 

My Astorian Queen is Wind's latest release as a band leader featuring multi-brass and reeds virtuoso Scott Robinson, veteran pianist Bill Mays and drummer Matt Wilson. Wind composed three of the album's nine tracks and May contributed one number alongside several familiar tunes including Broadway and a distinctive take on New York, New York. Russell
