This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Jazz Jamaica @ Sage Gateshead - Friday!

Gary Crosby's musicianship, energy and dogged determination over more than three decades have contributed to the emergence of a Black British jazz scene which we now accept as part of the furniture. Imagine today's landscape without the presence of the many musicians who've come through the Jazz Warriors-Tomorrow's Warriors-Jazz Jamaica hothouse set-up, it would be a poorer environment for everyone - musicians and audience alike. 

Tomorrow (Friday 18) at Sage Gateshead there is a rare opportunity to hear Jazz Jamaica in concert. A socially distanced Sage One audience will be treated to a one set performance (approximately 60-70 mins) featuring a host of familiar names...Mark Kavuma, Denys Baptiste, Eddie Hick, Cherise Adams-Burnett.

The concert will focus on the output of Trojan Records and some of the many charts in Jazz Jamaica's pad (there is a lot of material to draw upon, from 1991to the present day!).
