The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonight's KSTV Livestream - Jan. 15

Four masked musicians - not a horn-player or a singer in sight - is this more restrictions or just the way it worked out? Whatever, it was another cracking set. Amazing how, so soon after his BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award, Deschanel Gordon seems as though he's been part of the scene forever. 

Deservedly so. Just One of Those Things, compared favourably  against most any version by anyone anywhere. I'll Never be the Same had a slightly tongue in cheek feel to it - sort of a mish-mash of earlier styles that segued into a hint of more contemporary styles (just a hint).  This guy didn't read the last chapter first!

Luca Caruso was also showcased on the former number. He's fast becoming to UK jazz what his namesake was to Italian opera.

Daisy George is another musician who is fast becoming a semi-fixture on KSTV. As well as providing the harmonic foundation, her solos are always full of melodic content.

Which just leaves tonight's only Will - there's usually hundreds of them - but this one plays guitar better than any of the others and that includes a few guitarists playing elsewhere whose mothers didn't call them Will!
