This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. KSTV: Not the Concert by the Sea - Jan. 28

Well, it was billed as a playback session of Erroll Garner's famous recording - Concert by the Sea. However, either the tide must have rolled back or they couldn't find any telephone directories for Joe Webb to sit on* (not that he would have needed them) so it was back to last night's formula of piano, guitar and bass with Webb being replaced by Deschanel Gordon and Dave Archer the common denominator linking the two trios.

Once again a choice selection of tunes: Taking a Chance on Love - nice solo from Ferg. Can't We Be Friends? - great guitar. Horace Silver's Safari - all three cutting it. I'm Confessin' featuring Deschanel in an unusual mood - could this have been subtitled Les Dawson Plays Thelonious Monk (or vice-versa)? It was still a knockout. Ferg played the head on These Foolish Things rather beautifully bringing in Dave before Ferg returned for his solo followed by Desch - absolute class!

There's not many gigs where Charlie Parker's name doesn't appear in the set list. Tonight it was Cheryl which segued into C-Jam Blues at one point.

As usually happens with live streams, they don't announce the last number leaving us all guessing although, unlike Jack Cotterill's stream last night, no prizes were offered!
