This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Clare bids farewell to the Beeb

Tonight's edition of The Swing and Big Band Show with Clare Teal on Radio 2 is the presenter's final show ending an association with the BBC which began something like sixteen years ago. Over the years the programme has morphed and merged with Big Band Special to become a popular late night, weekend listening experience for many loyal fans. 
Clare is, of course, perhaps better known as one of Britain's finest singers, releasing numerous albums and winning a string of awards along the way. Working with the best in the business - Jason Rebello, Gregory Porter, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the John Wilson Orchestra - Ms Teal continues to tour and record and, like many of her fellow musicians, will, no doubt, be champing at the bit to get back out on the road on the other side of the pandemic. Tune to Radio 2 at 10:00pm to hear Clare go out swinging.

Sad that the BBC feel it does not deserve to continue, surely there is place for this genre of music though they say with Jamie Cullum and Sunday Night is Music Night some examples of this style will continue . The show is being replaced by Top Brass with James Morrison [assume its the British Soul Singer of Broken Strings fame] assume that this will be more Soul orientated than Jazz and Swing . It is so disappointing .

Given the title of Top Brass I would expect it to be presented by multi-instrumentalist James Morrison who hosted a show of that name a couple of years back on BBC2 playing a variety of brass recordings ranging from brass bands to swing and jazz bands.

Lance, you're right, it's Aussie multi-instrumentalist James Morrison presenting a second series of Top Brass. Last night's edition preceded Clare Teal's final programme. Teal teased her listeners saying they should keep an eye on social media, suggesting she will apoear on the airwaves elsewhere.
