The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Stack is a short term - three year - project before the developers move in. Located on the site of the now demolished Odeon Cinema, a plethora of bars and eateries continue to do a roaring trade post-Christmas/New Year. 

Entertainment is part of the offer and three well-known faces from the regional jazz scene played a return engagement entertaining a Saturday afternoon partying crowd. The absence of anything resembling jazz didn't matter a bean, this was popular entertainment, pure and simple. Our entertainers were none other than super singers Alice Grace and Jennifer Davies accompanied on acoustic guitar by Ben Helm. Tunes ranged far and wide including Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Somethin' Stupid and I Want to Hold Your Hand. 


From Stack, it was a short walk to the new place to be seen in the Cloth Market to catch Jason Holcomb's Society Trio. Read BSH Editor in Chief's thoughts on Newcastle's Cuban hideaway.
