Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

DJAZZ: Saturday Wet Weather - IMPORTANT change of venue (Fowlers Yard)

As you can probably see the good old British weather has a lot of rain in store for Durham today! This has scuppered our plans for the outdoor stage at Fowler’s Yard - we don’t think anyone wants to listen or play in the rain, and the forecast for the odd thunderstorm means that the best option is to move the outdoor events, indoors.
We have planned for this, so it’s wet weather contingency time!
Our alternative for the day venue is TESTT Space… we are presuming most of you won’t know where this is, which means it’s another great venue for you to discover this weekend.

TESTT Space is an art gallery in the city centre, directly above Durham Bus Station! Today it will be converted into a jazz club specifically for DJAZZ!
So, please don’t let the weather put you off, you can still catch all the great jazz programmed and use the venue as a hub / hang out spot in between bands.
How to find TESTT Space
The venue is situated directly above the Bus Station on North Road.
The door is opposite the British Heart Foundation next to ‘Recyke your Bike’.
Look for DJAZZ flags and branding, as well as volunteers on near the door.

Floor 2
Durham
DH1 4SG

*Please note: this venue is only accessible by stairs, apologies for any inconvenience. If you have any questions regarding accessibility please call 07549 682 913.

Change of Schedule:

>>> Terminally Chill have been added to the bill and will play the hub (formerly Fowlers yard, now TESTT Space due to wet weather) at 3:30pm.

>>> Alter Ego will now play at the slightly later time of 5pm, again at TESTT Space due to wet weather.
