Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

CD Review: Patrick Cornelius - While We're Still Young

Patrick Cornelius (alt/sop/fl/comp); Jason Palmer (tpt); John Ellis (ten/bs clt); Nick Vayenas (tmb); Miles Okazaki (gtr); Gerald Clayton (pno); Peter Slavov (bs); Kendrick Scott (dms).
Inspired by the poetry from When We Were Very Young, by A.A. Milne.
While I love this album, because of the backlog of CDs piling up, time and tide etc., I'm going to cop out and direct you to the Press Release. However, this isn't really  a cop out as I concur with everything they've written.
This is a superb album. The writing is brilliant in a sort of contemporary Marty Paich, Gil Evans, Manny Alban way. Don't think this makes it in anyway dated! The solos are for today and if Whirlwind hadn't sent me 3 discs in the one package I'd have probably written a thesis on how this is as good an example of today's jazz writing (and soloing) as you will find out side of the [Paul] Edis household.
Lance.
Patrick Cornelius - While We're Still Young was released yesterday on Whirlwind Records WR4682.
