This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Lana Trio @ Jazz Café. Sept. 30

Previously, All About Jazz wrote -  "Lana Trio succeeds in harnessing its challenging, experimental flights, and the determined exploration of inventive new sounds and fresh forms of interplay into a cohesive, tough, loose, structure that surprisingly sounds engaging and accessible." 
And at the Jazz Café this Norwegian trio provided aspects of the ambient Sofa Jazz of many contemporary Scandinavian artists coupled with the ferocious all-out-attack of others  with much focus on exploring the timbre of their individual instruments whilst providing an overall enveloping soundscape.  Yes, it was totally engaging and quite accessible.  Well done to Jazz North East & Schmazz  for taking yet another chance on an untried, and previously unknown (on Tyneside), band. TIt undoubtedly adds to the international reputation of Jazz North East and Schmazz. that they are offered - and accept - this kind of coup.
