This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Glasgow Jazz Festival Update

Now entering its 28th year, the Glasgow Jazz Festival returns 25 – 29 June with a superb line-up of world-class acts from across the jazz spectrum.  Headliners include guitarist Martin Taylor, saxophonist Courtney Pine with his acclaimed “House of Legends”, Neil Cowley Trio, Jacqui Dankworth & Todd Gordon, Brazilian Hamilton de Holanda and free-jazz cult hero Evan Parker and the hugely enjoyable Ian Shaw & Guy Barker At the Movies.  Visit www.jazzfest.co.uk for full line up.

To celebrate the Commonwealth Games the festival will also play host to a day of music centred on Jamaican musical influences, featuring sets from the Courtney Pine, Jazz Jamaica and rising star singer Zara McFarlane.
Pop up venue The Rio Club hosts Geno Washington, Dennis Rollins Velocity Trio, MOBO winners Sons of Kemet, and Niki King “Songs of Ellington”, Federation of the Disco Pimp as well as the popular Late Night Jazz Jam.

Elsewhere on the bill Laura Macdonald Commonwealth Sextet, Cinematic Orchestra guitarist Stuart McCallum, Stu Brown’s Twisted Toons, dixie and trad favourites including Classic Jazz Orchestra, Jazz on Film, Classic Album Listening Sessions as well as free fringe gigs.
