This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. CD Review: Space Flight – Sci-Fi

Sci-Fi is a five track EP with a total running time of 17 minutes and 31 seconds. It is a multi-media collaboration (text readings and processed sounds) minus a key element – 3D visuals. The visuals form an integral part of the ‘live’ performance. The audio-only experience is, perhaps, like listening to a mono recording, the development of stereo an audiophile’s pipe-dream.

Space Flight’s founder – Radek Rudnicki – works with Jakub Hader (video programming and interactive art) to explore the interaction between live instrumentation and immersive 3D visuals. Their source material includes the works of Isaac Asimov, Philip K Dick and Stanislav Lem and data obtained from NASA. Anna Edgington (a contemporary classical vocalist) reads from texts, providing a consistent narrative across the recording. Rudnicki manipulates sounds generated by the musicians – electronica, hip-hop, industrial – and in a live setting Hader’s visuals provide the missing piece to the cosmic jigsaw.
