This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jason Rebello to play Hoochie Coochie


Only a week before Gregory Porter plays his sell-out gig at Hoochie there is a rare Newcastle appearance at the same venue by outstanding British pianist Jason Rebello on March 7.
Rebello who, over the years (he's still only 44!), has appeared with Wayne Shorter, Gary Burton, Sting and many others was last here in 2013 with Madeleine Peyroux at Sage Gateshead.
The above only hints at Rebello's diversity. Jazz, Soul, Latin, Funk are all in his bag with perhaps a few surprises. I'm not yet sure who's in his band but you can bet your life there'll be no passengers on stage.
To hear him in the intimacy of Hoochie is an opportunity not to be missed and for a mere £10 is surely the Sale of the Century! Put it in your diary now!
