This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Pink Lane Jazz Co-op: Lindsay Hannon and The Blue Jazz Quartet @ Salsa Cafe, Westgate Road, Newcastle (Parts 2&3)

The second set started with the trio of piano, bass and drums introducing Tenor Madness from Jeff Smith… this was complemented by a lovely piano solo.  Lindsay’s opening song of this set,  All of Me,  saw  an interesting exchange between drums and double bass, and, not to be left out, the sax played a beautiful and haunting solo in the next song – Body and Soul.  The Boy from Ipanema was just lovely with an exquisite solo from Chris Finch.  A lively arrangement of Four, brought an exchange of fours among the band, and the final song of this set saw James Harrison guest on Piano to perform an outstanding version of Blue Monk with Lindsay and the remainder of the Quartet.
The final Set opened with an original piece composed by Chris Finch called Feeling Wise which really showed his technical ability and was very well received by the audience.  Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You, Dinji and Bye Bye Blackbird, again sung by the matchless Lindsay Hannon, showed her great versatility and ability to connect with an audience.  Lindsay’s final song revealed her to be In a Sentimental Mood.  The set was completed by another instrumental featuring guest pianist James Harrison in a lovely version of Green Dolphin Street…. But it didn't end there…
After a bit of persuasion from Mo, the owner of the Salsa Café and the return of Chris Finch to piano, a further guest appearance on vocals… Yours Truly with Autumn Leaves, which seemed to go down well!  Another special evening at the Salsa Café.
