The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Update on Great North Big Band Jazz Festival

This year's Great North Big Band Festival will take place at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St. Peter's, Sunderland (See poster). Friday evening's opening concert should be very interesting with Paul Jones and Mick Donnelly on Saxes with Adrian Tilbrook, Neil Harland and Colin Haikney in the rhythm section. This will be followed by the University of Warwick Big Band and the Festival Big Band which is made up of people who have attended the regular workshops at the university.
On Saturday we hope to have 17 big bands playing for 12 hours. The senior bands include bands from the universities of Cardiff, Warwick, Lancaster, Sheffield, Huddersfield and last years winners, Durham. The Customs House Big Band, Durham Alumni and the Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra will also be taking part.
The Youth section will have 8 bands.
