This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. A Newcastle Big Band Memory

I read with pleasure the articles and memories about Nigel Stanger and Newcastle Big Band. I once sang with the NBB at the University Theatre Bar (where else?) on a Sunday lunchtime. In the interval I asked Andy Hudson if the band would play MacArthur Park in the second half. He said "if you sing it we'll play it", so I did. Afterwards Nigel asked me if I'd be available the following Sunday, "Sure", I said, anticipating being offered a regular vocals position in the band. The Stanger riposte left me in no doubt: "well don't expect a call from us.............."!!

No I've never caught up with Geoff (Jeff?) Hedley. I seem to recall someone saying he'd re-located to Wales but I'm not sure.
I can't recall your vocal but so many things happened on those Sunday mornings it's now all very misty...
