Dance Me To The End of Love Standing on a Rooftop (Sounds Dangerous!)

So says Madeleine Peyroux, during her interview on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour today. There was a brief sample of her winsome version of Dance me to the End of Love as a taster, then Ms Peyroux told us about her latest album, entitled Standing on a Rooftop, which was recorded with Bill Wyman, whom she met at a BB King gig. She described the album as ‘American Roots’, though it has a cover of a Beatles song, but also some Dylan and Robert Johnson. Peyroux has been described as a jazz/blues singer, though she said she thinks of herself as ‘Americana’. The interview revealed that she isn’t too keen on classifying her music too precisely, then she proceeded to do an intriguing cabaret-type song Don’t Pick a Fight with a Poet, accompaning herself on guitar. She grew up in the USA and Paris, influenced by Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel, and particularly likes dramatic songs. A truly musically broad-minded sweet voiced lady.
