Bebop Spoken There

Danny Gatton: "I was tired of playing in beer joints. I wanted to do something tangible like building cars. But once you do music it gets into your blood. You can get away from it for awhile but sooner or later it comes back to you." - (Down Beat April 1991).

Tal Farlow: "There were times when I would stop [playing guitar] and do sign painting." - (Downbeat December 5, 1963)

The All Party Parliamentary Jazz Awards are with us once more and the polls are open. You don't have to nominate in every category but once you've submitted your nomination that's it.
It's simple, just go to the Jazz UK website and enter your choices. For example, should you wish to nominate Bebop Spoken Here for the Jazz Media Award simply type in Bebop Spoken Here in the appropriate space. The categories are:

Jazz Vocalist of the Year
(UK based artist who impressed in 2015)
Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year
(UK based musician who impressed in 2015)
Jazz Ensemble of the Year

Jazz Media Award

Jazz Education Award

Jazz Newcomer of the Year

Services to Jazz Award
(To a living person for their outstanding contribution to jazz in the UK).
The All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group is co-chaired by Jason McCartney and Lord Colwyn, and supported by music licensing company PPL in conjunction with Jazz UK, Jazzwise and the Musicians Union.
Remember to study the form before deciding as it's a one way street once you start.
Voting closes at 12 noon on February 18, 2016 and the nominees will be announced on May 10.

Bebop Spoken Here -- Here, being the north-east of England -- centred in the blues heartland of Newcastle and reaching down to the Tees Delta and looking upwards to the Land of the Kilt.
Not a very original title, I know; not even an accurate one as my taste, whilst centred around the music of Bird and Diz, extends in many directions and I listen to everything from King Oliver to Chick Corea and beyond. Not forgetting the Great American Songbook the contents of which has provided the inspiration for much great jazz and quality popular singing for round about a century.
The idea of this blog is for you to share your thoughts and pass on your comments on discs, gigs, jazz - music in general. If you've been to a gig/concert or heard a CD that knocked you sideways please share your views with us. Tell us about your favourites, your memories, your dislikes.
