Starting off at the Ticket Office, that lovely micro-pub on Whitley Bay Station with a captivating performance by two of my favourite jazz people - pianist Alan Law and singer Julija Jacenaite - I followed up with a delicious serving of Chicken Fried Rice from my local takeaway.
A pint of Pepsi Max set me up to the formidable task of watching Boro away to Stoke whilst posting the winners from the All Party Parliamentary Jazz awards as they were announced.
Well Boro won a five goal thriller 3-2 whilst way down south local heroes Knats (pictured) picked up the Jazz Ensemble of Year award. Well done wor Geordie Jazzers.
And that wasn't all! After such a day there was much to savour and not just the takeaway. As I lay a-bed sleep avoided me so I switched on the tv and tuned into the DJazz channel and enjoyed a live concert by the Paris Reunion Band.
Woody Shaw (trumpet); Nat Adderley (cornet); Nathan Davis (tenor/soprano sax); Joe Henderson (tenor sax); Walter Bishop Jr, (piano); Jimmy Woode (bass); Idris Muhammad (drums) - what a band! I slept well after this. Lance
P.S.: This is also BSH's 19,000th post in almost as many years. A pat on the back to all who have contributed.
