This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tommy Weatherley funeral update.

It has been announced that the funeral of the highly respected and much loved trombonist Tommy Weatherley will take place at 10:30am on Wednesday, October 23 at Whitley Bay Crem. 

Donations to Cancer UK can be made at the crem.

Afterwards, friends and fellow musicians are invited back to remember Tommy at Cullercoats Crescent Club circa 11:30am. Lance

Hilary Say told me that she remembered her late husband, Mike Gilby, telling her that Tommy did 4 or 5 arrangements for Count Basie when he was on the QE2 (Mike was working with Tommy in the Jimmy Bence band on the QE2). Basie asked Tommy to go through the music with the band...Mike said all of the passengers & most of the crew came to hear.
The Count & band were passengers & did the return journey. Thanks Hilary, precious memories.
