This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: The Black Swan jam session (Tuesday)


Tonight (Tuesday 6th) it's the Black Swan jam session! Newcastle Arts Centre's basement venue is once again likely to be very busy. This evening's house trio comprises pianist Alan Law, jam session MC, bassist Paul Grainger and star drummer Abbie Finn. As a trio gig it would more than worthwhile getting along, add the key ingredient of any jam session, the sitter-in, and it's got the makings of yet another memorable night.   

It's anyone's guess who'll turn up - big hitters, first timers - that's the beauty of it. If you're yet to get down to the Westgate Road jam session, here's a top tip...arrive early for a seven thirty start. Russell
