Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music: Abbi Finn Trio @ The Black Swan - Oct. 3

The Abbie Finn Trio served as an hors d'oeuvres to the afternoon jam session at this year's Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music. The main performance space in the Black Swan enabled a modicum of social distancing to be observed as sitters in and punters alike made their way in to the room. 

Pinocchio opened the set with tenor saxophonist Harry Keeble laying down a marker. Cheese Cake, a good old good one if ever there was one, with Main Man bassist Paul Grainger pointedly quoting Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise, we were off to a good start.  

Keeble's Ginnungagap has readily become a staple in the Abbie Finn Trio's set, a tune that, on repeated hearing, reveals something more of itself each time. Oh, yes, the composer produced a tremendous solo!
