This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Liane Carroll live stream - Dec. 30

It had been a while since I peeped through the curtains at Liane's so I decided to have another look and a listen. 

Blue Skies kicked things off, no piano on this opener, just voice and bass - a good start. Next up, what I'd describe as a railroad blues. Cincinnati Fatback had both Roger and Liane singing like they were Ohio born and bred.
The mood changed and Liane gave sensitive versions of You've Changed and A Beautiful Friendship.

Leon Russell's Down in Dixieland was another vocal duo. Liane flew solo on the rather beautiful Tom Waits' ballad Gonna Take it With me When I Go. Sometimes Waits' lyrics sound even better when sung by somebody else.

A couple of good old good ones: You Make me Feel so Young (vocal by Liane) and There is no Greater Love (vocal by Roger).

The penultimate song turned out to be the ultimate one for me. An original by Liane that may have been called I Thought I Saw Your Face on the Train. But, midway, Facebook froze and even though I poured boiling water over the 'puter it remained frozen so I missed the last number. Still, it doesn't take much to see that problems such as a frame freezing on Facebook  don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.
