This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Livestream: Tango Jazz Quartet – Jazz Coop June 28

I could do worse in this review than simply quote the comments:

Happy comments from one of the Milonga de los Domingos, the group who normally dance  at The Globe each Sunday evening. 

Some slight misquotes from some of the 38 or so people watching, but you get the idea, this was a rollickingly rhythmical performance and I even danced in front of the computer towards the end so I can definitely declare that that's maybe the best way to appreciate this music.

This was sax and keys led, with a light touch from the drums, except for some drum solos and a round of fours which I think could even have been eights. And of course the ever dependable bass guitar made his presence felt. There was also the occasional beautiful smooth clarinet. The tunes had mostly Spanish/Portuguese names so I'm not much help there, except that the 'sleazy warm sax' played in a tango called The Last Coffee, and the final tune was a milonga with a fast clarinet, a tune I recognised but can't name.

The rest was enchanting, eleven tunes, ballads, tangos, milongas and even a samba, all well played with aplomb, sweeps up and down the keys, repeated riffs on sax, strong rhythms.

The first ten minutes transmission had been a bit dodgy as some people had to switch screens, but it was easy to catch up afterwards on the YouTube recording. We forget how wonderful it actually is that we can get a live gig at home all the way from Argentina, and on a hand held device, which we couldn't have done, even as recently as the 1990s. So thank you technical people, especially Dr Harry.

Roll on a visit to The Globe next year, all the way from Argentina.
