This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. JAZZ FM Awards 2020

The Jazz FM Awards, due to take place next month at Shoreditch Town Hall, have now been rescheduled to take place in the autumn at the same venue. BSH have oft been in attendance. I was there last year and Steve T the year before - if you ever need a pair of freeloaders you can tell 'em we'll be there! 

Thinking about last year, it's a funny thing that, when you're in London, nobody can give you directions because they either don't live there, they only work there, they think you are a terrorist (these days, probably a carrier) or "Whyza he aska me? Why donna hea usa de mobile phone map?"  - I was within 50 yards of the imposing building at the time!

Still, in all seriousness - and I use the word serious advisedly - it's sad about the ceremony being postponed, as indeed it is about all gigs, but, at the end of the day, will there be any musicians left playing to be considered for awards in the years to come?

They could all be driving cabs, digging ditches or writing symphonies because, let's face it, the clubs and bars where they earn their bread will be at the back of the queue when lockdown eases down and, maybe - perish the thought - the online gig will become the norm.
