Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

CD Review: Kenny Carr - Idle Talk.

Kenny Carr (gtr); Donny McCaslin (ten); Kenny Wollesen (dms); Hans Glawischnig (bs).
(Review by Lance).
Kenny Carr spent ten years touring with Ray Charles, a span that only ended with the death of the blues maestro. McCaslin - feature article in this month's Downbeat - paid his dues at Berklee, with Gary Burton, stepped into Michael Brecker shoes in a reformed Steps Ahead before landing in the Maria Schneider Orchestra.

Wollesen and Glawischnig have their own CVs too. Wollesen with John Zorn, Bill Frisell and just about every other name in Local 802; Glawischnig came a long way from Austria but he hasn't far to go, already in the NYC upper A lists - a first caller in a city that's overrun with first callers!
Bearing in mind the above, it seems almost an afterthought to say that this is one tremendous album.
With the above ingredients what could go wrong?
Nothing!
Sax players check out McCaslin, guitarists, lend an ear to Carr, Jazzers, check out the album - this is as good as it gets.
A couple of great titles too - Anthrozoology (bop for today) and Blues Coffee (cool groove)!
If I hadn't decided that there is just too much fantastic jazz around both live and on record this would have been in there pitching for the Petersons (our equivalent of the Oscars) but, as it is, a surfeit of riches makes judgements such as this impossible - now if God were a jazz fan...
Kenny Carr - Idle Talk now available from the usual suspects.
Lance.
