Hi, Gordon Solomon here. I'm afraid I can't help you directly. However the Just Jazz magazine June 2005 had a feature on the River City including a photo of the original band with John Potts,- in a following issue (perhaps July or August) John had responded with a letter. If anyone has collected past editions perhaps they might be able to help you.
Cheers.
If you scroll down my Home Page to "Blog Archive" and seek out January 9, 2010 you will find the article Gordon refers to re-printed although not the letter from John.
Talking to Herbie Hudson - fellow founder member of the RCJ - he informs me that John Potts is alive and well and playing in Canada.
I googled "John Potts, trumpet Canada" and came up with the Fig Leaf Jazz Band whose trumpet player is indeed a John Potts. Could it be the same guy? Watch this space.
I lived in Canada between 1973 and 1981 and got to know a chap who had played with the high level ranters. He lived with wife and young children on Balliol. Played a violin as I recall. Does anyone know who this person was ie his name?? Would be nice if I could facebook him as a ghost from the past!!
