This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Farewell Lena Horne - died Sunday May 9 age 92.

Was Lena Horne a jazz singer? Was Sinatra? Who cares? They were both artists who transcended categories.
Lena's death on Sunday May 9 at the age of 92 marked the passing of one of the truly great entertainers - I guess there's just about only Tony Bennett left. Although I never saw Lena Horne live I have memories of her singing so many good songs in so many not so good movies.
"Honeysuckle Rose" - from the movie 'Thousands Cheer' my personal fave.

yes another great artist is gone, she always delivered with those unique facial expressions & flashing eyes...Stormy Weather was a fave of mine..
