This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. It sure wasn't no pickpocket...

The word on Facebook is that John Pope had his double bass stolen but that the instrument and its owner have been re-united. What's the lowdown on this dastardly deed John?

Whilst rehearsing with one of my (electric) bands at our room in the ouseburn on sunday night a very 'confused' (tired and emotional, I'll bet) gentleman used a lump of breeze-block to smash the rear windshield of my car. He then made off with the doghouse herself. Fortunately a young woman who was passing saw the break-in occur and phoned the police, whilst rushing into our room to alert us (mid rock-tastic riff). The culprit was caught, but not before 'stashing' my bass. 'Stashed' it right over some bushes, into a deep ditch. It was recovered by the police on monday morning and returned to me, post-forensic, on tuesday. The prognosis is not good...
