One of the first '78' records I bought was Lionel Hampton's Central Avenue Breakdown b/w When Light's Are Low. I'd bought the disc for Central Avenue Breakdown purely on the grounds that I liked the title! However, I found, after playing both sides, it was When Light's Are Low that I liked best and, to this day, the side remains one of my all-time favourites.
This, despite there being a surface click that marred Hamp's solo. At first it irritated me but I eventually got used to the noise the way you do if you live under a flight path or next to a Metro line.
Many, many, years later I bought a CD containing that track and I was disappointed. I thought that it must be an alternative take until it dawned on me that the click was missing!
