This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Marsden Jazz Festival by Our Man John Taylor
En route to my sons in Manchester last weekend I spent a couple of hours at the Marsden Jazz festival - more free events than at any other jazz festival in the UK! A New Orleans marching band marched round the village. Trombone and guitar performed in a stand up tent on a bridge. The 30 pc Ripon Grammar School Big Band had a big pad including "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White". an eleven year old on tpt was unbelievable. Marsden Jazz Festival

Trust our man John to find the freebies!
It's great to see a positive review of our playing online like this. I've been in the band since I was 11 and i'm the trumpet player he mentioned (or at least I was youngest tpt player then and i played cherry pink that day)but i was actually 13 then :) thanks for the praise though.
