This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. A Handful of Gongs

The Queen's Birthday Honours List hasn't exactly done the jazz world many favours this time round. In fact the only out and out jazzer is Roy Williams who can now proudly dangle an MBE badge on the end of his trombone slide. Sadly, because of his reportedly failing health, that probably won't happen. Nevertheless, we send Roy our congratulations and wish him well.

Mica Paris also scores for an MBE reminding me of a rather special night at Hoochie Coochie a few years back. "Can someone get me a high stool?" She asked the audience. I was able to oblige - I should have taken it home as a souvenir!

Talking of Hoochie, if anyone deserves a medal it is Warren who runs the best club in Newcastle.

Tommy Steele is now Sir Thomas Hicks. What's he doing on a jazz blog? I hear you ask. Well he did appear in a stage version of the Glenn Miller Story.

Joan Armatrading and Tony Hatch will also be playing The Palace - maybe they'll all pop round to Ronnie's afterwards ... Princess Margaret usually did!
