This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Pumphrey's Blues Cafe - open now!

Pumphrey's in Newcastle's historic Cloth Market has reopened as a blues cafe. The old school boozer has been transformed - and probably jettisoned its previous clientele along the way - into a chic blues dive. It could well compliment or be an alternative to Billy Bootleggers up on Nelson Street. 

Pumphrey's ground floor is open offering a range of (non-cask) beers, the walls are plastered with facsimiles of to-die-for vintage posters - take a look at the photos. It is hoped the first floor performance space will be ready to open its doors in the coming weeks and rumour has it the best Chicago blues band in town - the King Bees - will be getting down to tear it up.
