This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Vinyl all the way on Record Store Day (Saturday, April 13)!

Saturday is Record Store Day. More than two hundred independent record shops will be participating in the annual celebration of all that is good about independent traders not least their commitment to stocking vinyl. Here on Tyneside, half a dozen - if not more - record stores will open their doors to eager collectors looking to snap up a limited edition of that item they've been patiently waiting to get their hands on.

For BSH readers it is likely that the 'JAZZ' section in the racks will be of particular interest. There'll be vinyl by the bucket load, live in-store music (unlikely to be jazz!), coffee and, in one case, a specially brewed limited edition beer!*   

If you're in town on Saturday, be sure to call into one or more of these establishments because you never know there could be something in stock that you've always wanted or something you never knew you wanted...
