This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonight - The Price is right!

Last call for the Jazz Café! Tonight on Pink Lane guitarist Nigel Price promises to set the place alight with his smokin’ Hammond trio. Last month’s Ushaw Durham Jazz Festival found Price in scintillating form with regular sidemen Ross Stanley, Hammond, and Matt Home, drums. Launching into their set at a blistering pace, Price and co. threatened to set the place alight. Midway through that first number, the fire alarm rang out. The organisers had no option but to literally pull the plugs.
The building evacuated, it transpired that all was well, a case of a false alarm. Price’s trio picked-up where they left off. How they did it was and is a marvel. Effectively mid-tune, you couldn’t see the joins. Amazing stuff! Price is in the middle of a proper tour. A little matter of fifty-six dates, none of this ‘five gigs in two months constitutes a tour’ business.
Tonight Price will once again have alongside him the Hammond virtuoso Ross Stanley, and, on this gig only, the brilliant Steve Brown, drums. Doors open at 7:45pm, tickets are £7.00 on the door. A short support set from the Early Bird Band starts at 8:15. Don’t miss these guys, they’re the business, they’re tomorrow’s jazz musicians and they’re playing at the Jazz Café tonight. They’ll be hanging around to catch Nigel Price, why not join them?
