This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jason Isaacs & The Ambassadors of Swing @ Hoochie Coochie. August 16

They were queueing, awaiting the 4pm doors, The air was filled with Estée Lauder. The killer heels and the wedges again well in evidence.
The guys (we were outnumbered) wore slick suits, with waistcoats and slimline ties - at least I did - the cocktails and the amber fluids were flowing. There was an air of anticipation.
Jason deals from the top and the bottom of the deck. The cards are the same but they are so skilfully reshuffled you'd never believe it!
We, the audience, don't care - why should we? When there's a guy like Jason bringing swing to a younger (ish) audience what's to complain about?
The man has so much energy that each and every song seems to have been written for him even though Frank, Dean, Bublé, Elvis and a few others got there first! As a plus, none of the latter group blew saxophone either!
Talking saxes, we had a couple of burn-ups yesterday at the SSBB gig and today, Jason, Lewis Watson and Mick Donnelly went toe to toe on You're Indestructable. Jason graciously admitted defeat - maybe Lewis and Mick settled it in the alley. 
But this was about singing and putting on a show and few can do it better than Jason.
He swings, He captures the audience. They join   in, they singalong, click their fingers, clap their hands, stomp their feet and they dance. 
Like all the great entertainers - He connects!

Seems as though I am destined never to see this talented performer! His show in York was cancelled last year, and this year ( yesterday) I had planned to travel to Newcastle but, due to other commitments was unable to do so. Still I can enjoy it vicariously through our Webmaster's excellent review!
