This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Windows Expand Central Arcade Store in Newcastle

Bryan Ferry refers to spending his part time earnings working in a tailor's shop as a schoolboy and spending his wages buying records in Newcastle's major music store Windows of the Arcade.
Well, as someone who spent 30 years of his working life there, I was delighted to hear of their expansion plans in the Central Arcade.
A music shop isn't like Tesco or Asda, it's a place where you get expert advice, meet friends, become friends with the staff and then, if after absorbing the knowledge gleaned, you off and buy on eBay/Amazon, maybe you stop looking at yourself in the mirror for awhile... until the damn thing stops working!
I remember a guy buying a flute for his daughter and bringing it in to the store because she couldn't get a sound out of it. He showed me the instrument and said, "It's just a hollow tube - nothing inside it!
I blew him the first movement of the Mozart Flute Concerto in G (K313)* which convinced him the flute worked!
