This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonight! Ruth Lambert CD Launch

Singer Ruth Lambert launches her new CD tonight in the upstairs room at the Jazz Café. Three comprises standards and original compositions with Lambert in the company of a first rate guitar/double bass partnership. Sensitive, intimate guitar accompaniment to the singer of standards is an art form and in Giles Strong there is none better for Lambert. A sensitive double bassist is hard to find. Ms Lambert has found a gem in Mick Shoulder.
Lambert possesses an enviable vocal range heard in big band, small group and this close-up trio format. Tonight is an opportunity to hear one of the great swinging interpreters of a lyric in the atmospheric first floor music room. Seats will be at a premium. Arrive early to claim a front row table. The upstairs bar will be open for business – fine wines and the best selection in town of regional microbrewery bottled beers. The new CD Three will be available to purchase on the night (a signed copy would make a nice Christmas present!), admission on the door is £8.00. (£6.00. concessions), with the first set starting at 8:00pm.
