Bebop Spoken There
Melanie Charles: "If I don't have a gig I'll try to get in bed by midnight. But if I do, I might end up having a jam session after. That happened a few weeks ago, and I didn't get to bed until 7 a.m.." - (The New York Times Aug. 10, 2018)

The Things They Say!
Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Our Thoughts Are With (Mighty) Joe Young
I've just received the sad news that Joe Young is currently in a care home.
Guitarist/Bassist Joe has been a figure on the north-east jazz scene since the late forties/early fifties firstly as the leader of one of the area's first modern bands then later as bass player with the Vieux Carré Jazzmen.
Diane thanks those musicians and friends who have been supportive during this difficult period and would appreciate hearing, via this site, from those who may not have known the situation.
Our thoughts are with Joe and Diane.
Lance.

I'm so sad to hear the news about Joe. I was a regular at his sessions at the New Orleans in the mid-sixties and a great fan of the band. My thoughts are with him and his family. Please keep us updated.
For all Joe's friends who have taken the time to read the blog, I would like to say that whilst Joe isn't in the best of health, he is settled and as happy as can be under the circumstances - which is doubtless due to his exceptionally kind and good nature.
I visit Joe at least four times per week and above all, I ensure he's as well dressed as ever!!!
Whilst not wishing to sound flippant in any way, small things mean a lot, especially at this time.
Whilst I do not have email access as such, any messages can be relayed to me via this blog, or directly via Lance Liddle.
Thank you Lance for your kind thoughts.
Diane Young.
