The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Keith Stephens' Hot Club Trio - New CD

That veritable tome of Jazzology - Jazz Journal International - in its November issue, reviews the latest CD by Keith Stephens' Hot Club Trio.
The CD, which features John Hallam on reeds and Caroline Irwin, vocal, alongside Keith (banjo & guitar), Bruce Rollo (bass) and Roly Veitch (rhythm guitar & vocal) receives what can best be described as a moderately enthusiastic review by, I think, Derek Ansell.
Visitors to this site can make up their own minds by listening to the YouTube clip (in the sidebar) of "I Saw Stars".
Mr Ansell did, however, raise a chuckle when he questioned the advisability of a melody, not "I Saw Stars", being played throughout on a banjo!
Bill Harper might agree on that one!
Nevertheless, banjos and Derek Ansell notwithstanding, the CD (KSHCT002) is well worth a listen.

Keith just occasionally plays a 'feature' number on banjo.
A gypsy waltz or traditional tune. He is a virtuoso banjo player. You should hear his 'Tiger Rag' duo with Bruce on bass. It brings the house down.

Just listened to "I saw stars" loved it, especially Roly's easy handling of the vocal, but not so easy for many I suspect! I forwarded it to my son & Bro...as Lance knows both guitarists.
